Being a good Catholic, or at least trying to be during these last days of Lent, I braved the still lingering and extended Chicago Winter and attended Palm Sunday mass this morning at St. Peter’s Church in the Loop. Prior to the entrance hymn, Fr. Bill asked the Congregation to gather around the Baptismal Font for a special blessing of the palms, and also to ask everyone to “please silence your cell phones.”
During the blessing, I had noticed out of the corner of my eye that the palm leaves of the woman standing next to me, whose face was buried in her prayer booklet, was ever so gently tickling the neck of the young man standing in front of her. With the best of intentions, I gently tapped her on her shoulder and whispered, “I think your palm is tickling that guys neck.”
Upon hearing this, her response was the facial expression I tried to mimic below (but couldn’t quite get down, not enough disgust), followed by an extremely obvious side step. An attempt to clear her area of this crazy person (me) talking to her.
Not believing what just happened, I shot her the “Really?” look (probably more pathetic though) and held it for some 30 seconds.
This was quickly followed by a full on stare down that lasted at least a minute.
When the blessing was finished, and we all headed back to our previously chosen pew seating, she made an effort to walk in front of me and at a very audible noise level and extreme contempt in her voice, warned me “Don’t tell people what to do.” Of course this sage advice was given without even looking me in the eyes. To wit, she would have received a very “kill you with kindness” smile.
To you, ma’am, I quote Ralph Waldo Emerson and say, “Go put your creed into your deed.”
My friends Stacy and Flood throw this insane annual (I think) Halloween party where they completely festoon the basement and backyard with creepy Halloween goodness. I’m talking a mini graveyard, a man in an electric chair (with working arcs of electricity!), spider webs, a dungeon (no dragons), and very, very, very cool people (not part of the decorations). I was asked if I could bring my video camera to sort of document the evening festivities, and I’m glad I said yes. Have a gander.
How about this? I’m feeling like I like version one in the previous post. As mentioned by This Gurl and Clay, it’s clean, makes you think, and says it all. But I also wanted to try and take it further with the “hella” portion of the name, as suggested by Kevin. Thanks guys! Oh, I’m also still looking for continued feedback.
So the weekend of October 4th - 5th, the hustlewood crew went up to Devil’s Lake State Park in WI for some camping. This is the result of the first day, and my rookie move of not bringing enough memory cards. So this is all I could share with ya.
Found this sick, beautiful,–how do you manage to get both of those in something?–”Vote for Hope,” non-aggressive rally call, motion graphics music video. Music by MC Yogi “Vote for Hope,” and it’s pretty gosh darn dope. Okay, so here’s the video already…Geez.
So my buddy, Michael Cole, sent me this link which he titled “the end-all coolest campaigning tool EVER.” I click on it in quiet anticipation. My reaction…as Borat once poetically said, “IT’S NICE!”
There needs to be a cycling version of ObamaBATON. ObamaALLEYCAT??
